This project works with women who are seeking sanctuary in the UK as well as Refugee women living in and around Swansea.
35 women are signed up to the project and approximately 20 of these women attend the weekly meetings at the ACC.
These women live in different parts of Swansea and most of them come from some of the most socially and economically deprived areas in Swansea.
The participants originally come from a wide variety of countries and cultures such as Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Kenya, Iraq, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Congo. This richness in diversity adds to the uniqueness of the group as it presents a great opportunity for the participants to learn about the cultures of different people through regular interaction and activities.
A lot of the women who have accessed this project have testified that they feel very comfortable coming to the ACC Drop-In Centre as it provides a culturally sensitive and comfortable environment for them to relax, learn and interact with people from different parts of the world.
It is also made easier for them as coming to the Centre does not involve them incurring any personal costs as transport costs and reimbursed and childcare is provided on site.
